Rise joins the ‘Going for Green Pledge’ to champion sustainability in sport
We’re thrilled to announce that Rise has signed the ‘Going for Green Pledge’ as part of Sport England’s Pedal for Paris campaign, which aims to promote sustainability and innovation in the lead-up to the Olympic Games in Paris. This initiative, championed by Sport England chair Chris Boardman, encourages the sport and physical activity sector to step up efforts in tackling climate change.
Pedal for Paris is a remarkable eight-day cycling journey from Manchester to Paris, taking place in July 2024. The ride is designed to showcase and promote green action and innovation. By bringing together diverse sports and physical activity organisations, Pedal for Paris encourages everyone to commit to sustainability and green practices.
At Rise, we believe in the transformative power of physical activity not just for individuals, but for our planet. As part of our 10-year strategy, we’ve made it a priority to tackle the climate crisis through our work.
We’re committed to making a difference by integrating environmentally sustainable practices into everything we do. By signing the Going for Green Pledge, we aim to promote sustainability by:
Reducing energy and water usage.
Champion walking, cycling and lift sharing when travelling to activities.
Drastically reduce reliance on single use plastics.
Recycling waste and increasing the reuse of sports equipment and kit.
Boosting activity to nurture nature and wildlife.
Moreover, we’re proud to be working towards the prestigious Green Investors in the Environment (iiE) Award. Having already achieved the silver award, we’re now focused on obtaining the green award—the highest level of accreditation. this award recognises organisations that excel in reducing environmental impact and drive sustainable development throughout their organisation.
As Clare Morley, our CEO, emphasises, “In addition to the iiE award, we work with partners to look at all the ways that physical activity can support the climate change agenda and reduce harm to our environment. We have also made a formal commitment to being net zero as part of the United Nations Future Net Zero campaign and are developing new ways of working to become more sustainable.”
