Rise joins the International Safeguards for Children in Sport initiative

Rise is proud to announce it has been welcomed as a member of the International Safeguards for Children in Sport initiative. This global initiative encourages organisations to take a pledge to make sport safe for children. By signing the pledge, Rise is reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding children across Northumberland and Tyne & Wear.

Rise is dedicated to ensuring children and young people can engage in physical activity and sport in a safe environment. Physical activity plays a crucial role in the social, emotional, and physical development of individuals, and everyone should have the opportunity to participate in a safe and supportive setting.

Sport welfare officers Sarah and Richard

Earlier this year, Rise appointed two Sport Welfare Officers, Sarah and Richard, who play a pivotal role in supporting local sports clubs and organisations. They work closely with club welfare officers, providing essential training, offering guidance on meeting safeguarding standards, and connecting clubs with valuable resources and networks.

"Safeguarding and welfare should always be a top priority. Championing these values within clubs ensures that everyone can have positive and safe experiences in sport and physical activity”, says Sarah.

As part of the Sport Welfare Officer Network, Sarah and Richard collaborate with key partners such as the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit and the Ann Craft Trust. This partnership is aimed at supporting club welfare officers in creating safer club environments and enhancing the overall experience for young people and adults. Rise looks forward to engaging with upcoming initiatives such as the CPSU’s keeping children safe in sport week, and the Ann trust’s adult safeguarding week. Stay tuned to find out how you can get involved.

We encourage all sports clubs and organisations to take the safe sport pledge, and join the effort to make sport safer for every child.
